Models of syringe drivers

There are a several different types of syringe drivers commonly used in the UK known as Smiths medical (formerly known as Graseby) MS16A (blue) and Grasesby MS26 (green) which are the oldest type of syringe drivers. Both models measure the length of the fluid rather than volume.

 The Graseby models

MS16A has the rate set in millimetres (mm) per hour and so the total amount of fluid to be delivered is measured in mm. For example if the  rate is set at 2mm/hour that will be 48mm of fluid in 24 hours.

Grasesby MS26(green): has a rate that is set in millimetres per day (mm/day) and this is the more commonly used one compared to the Grasesby blue.

Newer models

Newer models of syringe drivers have been released onto the market such as Mckinley T34 and Micrel MP daily.

  •  Micrel MP Daily is not a common choice compared to the graseby or mckinley models but the calibration is similar to the Graseby device mentioned above because it is calibrated in mm/24 hour i.e. based on the length of the fluid.

  • Mckinley T34 or otherwise known as Niki T34 is a type of syringe driver commonly used in Australia and New Zealand. This is mainly due to the voluntary withdrawal of the Graseby models from the market in Australia due to concerns of a lack of safety. Although the Mckinley T34 design is more complex, it is regarded as being a safer alternative syringe driver.
